Kid Hat Gone Bad
This is what I spent most of Sunday evening working on and, well, I don't like it.
I knew I didn't like it when I picked it up, I just didn't KNOW I didn't like it. Know what I mean?
It's like this: A co-worker's wife just delivered her baby last week; being a knitter, I immediately sprang to action and headed for the yarn shop after work on Friday evening; I had only minutes to decide on something and since I'd been eyeing those KnitWhits kits for a while, I decided I'd go with one -- mainly for convenience; in my gut, I knew that the colors were very much not me and possibly not the recipient's (they are WAY brighter than how they appear on screen -- picture a painful turquoise with a painful magenta and a painful orange all comingling in the WORST possible way), yet I talked myself into the kit because I liked the design and I wanted something spoon-fed with no thinking whatsoever; as I knit along, I could feel the pangs of intuition yelling at me to stop, yet I kept going.
What is my problem?
Now, the pattern itself is fine and the design is great. I just don't think it's appropriate for a newborn and I'm definitely not crazy about the color combos.
And, honestly, the kits themselves are bit pricey for what you get.
Why didn't I listen to my gut? WHY?
Oh well.
I have a tendency to always want to go overboard. Someone needs to stamp "LESS IS MORE" on my forehead.
Now, I'll probably gift this to an older baby...OR, I may rip the whole thng out, rewind the balls and sell it on eBay. Either way, Baby Zoe will be getting something a bit softer for her delicate newborn head. Hehehe.
There was other knitting this weekend involving Birch and socks and some other stuff. So, look out for those updates this week.
And for you Rogue Fans, I haven't gotten around to sewing the thing up yet, but the plan is to wear it on Turkey Day so hopefully I'll have it done in the next few days. And, if I'm lucky, someone will snap an FO pic on Turkey Day itself.
We'll see...
